Do they work?

They do make fibers and fabric appear cleaner. But These color brighteners actually degrade and turn yellow over time. Which means that when you look at a carpet it will have a yellow hue. that's why over time carpets begin to look yellow. when a carpet cleaner see a yellow hue on a carpet we think it is a Ph problem and we treat it accordingly but when it is an optical Brightener problem the solution does not work.

UV Lights and optical brighteners

When someone inspects a carpet for whatever reason, for example you are moving out of a house and now a UV light is used to inspect the carpet because they think the UV light will magically find the urine stains in a carpet and they find blue or white glowing spots these spots are often confused with urine from a cat or dog and then they want to charge you to replace the carpet which can be thousands of dollars. I have found that these inspections are faulty because if I check the carpet Ill find a blue or white spot that looks like urine but if I smell it, yes it is gross, it has no odor or sometimes it just smells like detergent. Usually cats and dogs "go" in specific areas unless they are sick. So color brighteners can cause a lot of damage and make it look like you damaged the carpet when you did not.
